TITAN REDIN The Capitol must be very different from your home district. What's your favourite thing about the Capitol so far? Titan shifted around in his chair, watching the thousands of eyes on him. He hated his stupid outfit. He hated the host. He hated everything. He tried not to let his anger show. "Um... the number of people. I feel like I'm in a giant ant farm," he said, but his joke fell flat. The Capitol citizens didn't like being compared to insects. He clicked his tongue awkwardly. "I like the fashion here," he lied smoothly, and the audience was back on his side.
What is your life like back home? What's your family like? Titan's eyes reverted to the ground. He didn't want to talk about his family, especially after the goodbye they'd given him. "I'd have to say my friends are my family. Sometimes I wish... nevermind." The host encouraged him on, and eventually he spilled to the planet. "My parents and my brother aren't especially nice to me. The last words from my father weren't exactly what I would call a goodbye. It was more of an acknowledgement that I wouldn't disappoint him again because I'll be dead."
Is there a special someone in your life? Titan scoffed at the question and giggled a little bit. "Um, no. I don't think many twelve year olds do." he said, looking out into the crowd. Some looked to be dazing off, so he needed an angle to play. He'd already tried the sympathy thing, but that hadn't worked. Talking about his friends seemed to be a good way to go. "I don't have a girlfriend or anything like that, but my friends are all special and that's enough for me."
How are you planning to win the games? This was something he still couldn't think about. Titan knew he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the games, but he didn't want to let anyone else know that. For all they knew, he could be deadly. A broad smile spread across his face. "I want to keep it a surprise for everybody. There's no use in spoiling what I may or might not do in the arena. What's the excitement in that?"
The reaping. I've never seen anything like that, especially not from Two. You volunteered so your older brother could not. Eager to get into the arena, eh? Although Titan didn't find the host's joke funny, he smiled anyway. "It's more complicated than that," he paused, deliberating to tell the truth or not. Telling everyone the real reason behind his volunteering would mean trouble for his family, so he decided to lie. "My brother has always been Mum and Dad's favourite. I needed to do something for myself. He was not happy with me," he chuckled.
That's all we have time for. Titan Redin from District Two, everybody! The host raised Titan's arm into the air, and he looked around nervously. How he'd answered the questions tonight might make or break his sponsorship chances. As a tribute from a career district, the sponsors came flocking. But once they realized he wasn't the killer they expected him to be, what would happen to him?
