Nienke Harlem
The Capitol must be very different from your home district. What's your favourite thing about the Capitol so far? Nienke glanced up nervously at the host and smiled a bit bashfully. She felt very uneasy on stage in front of this many people. But she knew she had to answer, to try to be likable. She smiled her sweet, young smile and nodded, "Yes sir, it's very different. Here the lights are so much prettier than the big power plant lights back home." Her young age was so apparent as she sat there smoothing her large dress that was glittering in the spotlight.
What is your life like back home? What's your family like? Nienke's eyes automatically watered as she remembered her parents, who'd cried so much when she'd been chosen. They'd been some of the only people she'd cared about. She bit her lip and said in a very quiet voice, "I have a mom and dad, both who loved me very much. They are gonna miss me a whole lot." She lowered her gaze to the floor, feeling guilty that she'd never realized how much she was loved until the reaping this year. She'd always been trying to escape, trying to prove them wrong that they shouldn't be caged up in their district. And her family had paid for her naive rogue adventures along the districts edges.
Is there a special someone in your life? Nienke giggled at that one and looked back up at the host, "I am only fourteen. I am too young for that. But i do have a best friend back home who is gonna miss me a lot i think." She smiled sadly up at the camera and waved, "Hey Hans you better be finishing up that fort without me!" She looked away sadly as she played with the thin wire bracelet on her wrist made by her best friend.
How are you planning to win the games? Nienke was taken aback by this question and looked up confused. Did anyone really think she had a chance? Or was this a pity question? She sighed and just kept looking down at her bracelet, "I don't know. I guess stay alive as long as i can without seeing people." She knew she probably wasn't supposed to say what little of a plan she had, but she really didn't care too much.
You sound a bit down on yourself, shouldn't you give yourself a bit more credit? After all you look like a little spitfire!. Nienke smiled at the host's attempt to boost her spirits as well as improve her chances for sponsors. She wasn't exactly selling herself very well. But did it matter? All her life she'd wanted to be invisible, to get out, to die if that's what it took. And now here she was. But she was going to die at the hands of the capital's stupid game. Frowning she looking back down, "Sir i think it's safe to say i guess even i don't know what i may be capable of, but i do hope that you are right."
That's all we have time for. Nienke Harlem from District 5, everybody! Nienke smiled and looked back at the crowd, standing to curtsey she blew a little kiss to the audience and awkwardly spoke into the mic that the host held out, "Ummm...Thanks so much! Make sure to tune in to the games this next week!" She quickly exited the stage, feeling like an idiot. Because she knew everyone would be required to tune in. And watch me die...
