She dropped out of school at age 13 to help learn the family trade, which was cleaning oysters that were to be used for jewelry making. She spent the majority of her time working alongside her sister while her mother kept up their comfortable family home and her father tended to the business aspect. Marionette does not have very much free time, and when she does she spends it working on spear throwing and swimming. Much of this comes from a fear of the Games. Until two years ago her family loved the games, rejoiced every year and watched them with such excitement. However two years ago, her older brother Hayden was chosen at age 18. He survived halfway through, but was killed off. Her family drifted apart after this, all going their own ways, keeping to themselves, and leaving her with more free time. She spent the time self-training. She is determined to survive if she ever is chosen, and would like to bring honor to her family's name. Aside from a strong sense of duty to training, Marionette feels very passionate about traveling. Although she cannot travel out of her district, she loves taking long boat trips out into the sea and traveling around her district between the towns on her father's small business trips. She wants more than anything to visit the capital, and would consider it another benefit of being chosen for the Games. As the reaping looms closer, Marionette worries she will not be prepared, and often envies the district tributes from the upper districts who receive covert training that she does not have means for and cannot afford. As for her, Marionette is very aggressive and hard headed. She is used to doing things her way and doesn't just wait around for things to happen, she likes to take charge of her life. She doesn't have much time for friends and rarely has a desire to open up to people. Especially after her brother died, Marionette withdrew from her family because since she still could be pulled for the games, she doesn't want them growing too attached to her after what they went through when Hayden died. Marionette had a boyfriend for a while, but he became far more interested in training for the games and so they broke up. Since then she has no interest in guys, and thinks they are a waste of time considering she plans to go into the arena anyways, and a boyfriend waiting back home would be more baggage. Recently Marionette has considered volunteering at the next reaping, and has been putting extra time into running on the beach and trying to learn how to make fire, which with no real forests around to gather wood, has proven unsuccessful for the most part. Overall Marionette is pushing aside herself and her life to focus on the games because she feels it's her duty to go in for her family's sake, as well as her own because she isn't finding much to live for back home.
